So now we’re into 2019, it’s worth reflecting on what a fantastic year 2018 was for us.
It started with a massive thumbs up from the community we’re based in, with a special award for “Best Band” at the Guide Awards, an award that encompasses artists from the Portsmouth, Fareham, Isle of Wight, Chichester and areas and all points in between. We were shocked and honoured to get the award, and were extremely grateful to the public who got us in the short list of 6 bands, and the industry people that picked us as the winners. An incredible, crazy thing that hit us out of the blue and was an amazing reward for the mad schedule we keep to, especially in the last 5 years. It’s still bringing us a lot of pride and pleasure a year later.
There were tons of great gigs and festivals over the year too. It was definitely the best year for Bemis this year; we’d love to send out a massive, massive, massive thanks to all of you who have supported the band and come to see us. Our big show a few months a...
So there’s been a bit of a gap in the blogging on this site, due to losing access to it for a while, but we’re up and running again, and it’s about time we talked about Mayfield Records!!
We are now signed to Mayfield Records!!!
Since July last year, we’ve been developing our relationship and they’ve been fantastic to work with. They produced and are distributing our newest album “A World of Difference” and it’s easily the best album we’ve ever recorded.
Again, the cover has been designed by the amazing and legendary cartoonist, Hunt Emerson, and it’s the best cover yet.
Each song is built around the newest line-up, with our newest member, Louis Howells making a massive contribution to the whole sound and co-writing 5 of the songs.
Since the release of the album we’ve continued to organise our own Bemis gigs in great venues, continued to keep our regular appearances on the festival scene and done special one-off things like the online streamed gig we did at Mayfield Studio.
So we’re getting close to the end of the year now. It’s been a fantastic year for us. We have finished the 6th Bemis album, and the 2nd one with the current lineup and we’ve created many “backstage” elements to the band that will really pay off for us going into the future. We are enormously grateful for the ongoing support and want to say hi to all of the people that have met us for the first time this year.
We started the year with an instore appearance at the Music Room, a really enjoyable spot on Radio Woking and a special gig at Chichester College. Then festival season started early for us again with the South Down’s Green Fair, an event we absolutely love playing. Then we had other great events that made the year special such as the Petersfield Spring Festival, Watchet Festival, Wickham Festival, the Something Else in the Dean events and we were honoured to play a 2nd time at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival. We’d like to thank all of the festival orga...
Summer is over and we're looking forward to a busy end to the year. We're planning a few things while regularly gigging through the year as usual. We've had a really succesful year so far and we'll be ending it with the release of our next album, 'People are alike all over'. It will feature some of the new songs you've been hearing in recent gigs, as well as some other songs that we've yet to gig.
Our big gig at the Wedgewood Rooms on the 5th December is likely to become the album launch - and we have got a really great gig lined up for that. Hobo Jones and the Junkyard Dogs will be the main support with Megan Linford also on board. There will be biscuits
and the kind of show we can only put on when it's our own gig, so we are really looking forward to the 5th December!
Check out our website, Facebook page and the Wedgewood Rooms website for ticket availability.
You will also be able to get tickets from the band once they are available.
So we have now said farewell to the Cellars. It was a fantastic and memorable night where some of our close friends shared the stage with us and the place was packed with people clearly having a great time. Big thanks again to William Harper, Number Nine and Skeg Seymour for doing such great sets. We performed an hour set that included 5 songs from the new upcoming album, which was great, and as usual got people up for some of the songs in our set.
Big thanks again to all the people that came down to see us. Now that our last Bemis and Friends at the Cellars is done, it’s time to look forward to a busy and exciting Summer.
Coming up soon is a great private festival, called Fitzfest, then we’re doing two great events the week after: Southsea Food Festival and one of the significant for us this year, Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival! – we’re playing on the Sunday, and we can’t wait to put on a strictly political set on for it.
Soon we’ll be playing at Wickham Festival, and we’ve got discounted...
Hi everyone – thanks for finding the website. This is the first of the “news” items on our new site, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and to tell you about some things that are happening with us this year. It’s been a great year for us, with some interesting developments on the horizon, and lots of things to celebrate.
Our album “The Junction” that we finished in the Summer of last year, is selling extremely well, and we’ve had lots of radio airplay of some of the tracks too. Many thanks for your support on that. The new album, which will be called “People are alike all over” is underway now, and we are very hopeful that it will be ready for this Summer’s festival season....you’ll be hearing some of the songs from the new album in the latest gigs, so look out for those when you see us.
Darryl Thomas, our drummer from 2012, is back with us permanently now, which is great news, as he is a Jedi on the drums, and a lovely bloke, so that was a...
